Elk Ridge gear by MASTER CUTLERY
Elk Ridge ER-298G10 Fixed Blade Knife
This knife is a part of the Elk Ridge brand of knives from Master Cutlery. The one thing that we can say, is other then small neck knives, it is "very" difficult to find fixed blade knives that are 2 1/2 inches or smaller. Master Cutlery Elk Ridge brand of knives is one of two companies that we have found, "anywhere"that have them! The handle has G-10 handle slabs, and is very thick to provide great griping power when holding the knife. The knife has a "finger choil", the small notch area where the handle meets the metal blade. That finger choil proves outstanding support when doing fine close up work like carving or dressing game. While a large fixed blade knife is essential, either together with your other gear or alone as an every day carry item, we highly recommend this knife. - Tom
Features include:
5" Inches Overall
Stainless Steel
G10 Handle With Cord
Includes Leather Sheath
Fixed Blade Knife
Other than maybe a neck knife, no other company that we have found has a fixed blade knife as small as this one! This Elk Ridge brand of knife from Master Cutlery has a small 440A upswept clip point blade design that is useful for cleaning small game and for a variety of other cutting tasking. The handle is made out of pakkawood which is a wood composite material made under exterme pressure. The material is used in a lot of knife handles, and provides better wear then other wood handles. This knife also has the advantage of meeting certain knife restrictions in some states as it has a blade size that is 2 inches. As always, check with your local state laws in regards to open and concealed knife carrying in public. This knife would make as a great backup blade in a bag or pouch as it takes up hardly any room. It is so small that the knife can even ride in your front pocket in the leather sheath with no issues. For about a week, I even carried this knife to certain work sites and used it to cut everything from card board boxes, to striping insulation from wire. This is truly a multi-purpose blade that is perfect for every day carrying and any other tasks that you need a small blade for. -Tom
Features include:
4.5" Overall
2" Stainless Steel Blade
Pakkawood Handle
Includes Leather Sheath
Fixed Blade Knife
Elk Ridge ER-276PW Fixed Blade Knife
Again, you will not find any fixed blade knife that is as small as this one. The Elk Ridge brand of knife from Master Cutlery features a maple burl wood handle that provides great gripping power. It is a great looking knife that also has a mirrored polished finish on the blade. Razor sharp out of the box, the blade is made out of 440A stainless steel and has nice steel bolsters where the hilt of the knife is. The sheath that comes with the knife is made really well, and has a snap retention loop on the top of the sheath that secures the knife in place. Even though this is a great looking knife, it has a lot of tough cutting power. We were able to make some feather sticks for a fire with no issues using this knife. This knife also would be great for preparing small game for hunters and any other tasks that you can think of. A great all around knife for every day carrying, hunting or camping. -Tom
Features include:
5-Inch Overall
440 Stainless Steel with Mirror Finished Blade
Burl Wood Handle
Includes Leather Sheath
This skinner knife. is a very welcome addition to any hunter's or survival bag. The blade as a gut hook knife for skinning and a sharp 440A stainless steel blade. on the carrying sheath, there is a sharpening rod on one side and a ferro rod on the other. We had no issue sharpening the blade and making a small fire using the ferro rod. One key thing to remember, is that ferro rod normally have protective coating on the rod to prevent accidental sparking. You need to rub this coat off of the rod, before use. There is also gromet holes in the carrying sheath, so you can lash the whole unit on a front side of a bag, or make a laynard and hang this from your neck. -Tom
Features include:
5.4'' Overall
Camo Coated 440 Stainless Gut Hook Blade
Comfort Grip Silicone Ring
Molded Case with Fire Starter and Honing File
Elk Ridge Infinity Field Skinner Knife - Fire Starter-Camo Coated
What a large fixed blade knife this is! The Elk Ridge ER-082 is a fixed blade knife that has a black handle, which we think is pakkawood, and has 12.5 blade that has the most impressive saw in the top spine of the knife that we have ever seen! The blade is made out of 440A stainless steel and is very easy to sharpen. The one thing that we like, is this is a very "light" knife. There is a nice finger choil where the blade begins that you can put your index finger in for fine detailed work. As note above, the saw is awesome we had no issue sawing thru tree branches at all. I took this knife into the woods, and as hard as I could swung and embedded the blade into a tree stump. No folding of the metal edge, and no issues with the knife afterwards, at all. Even though at times it's nice to have a heavy large knife.. sometimes when your pack back is small and your avoiding carrying a lot of weight, you don't need anything else weighing you down. This knife is a viable option when you are trying to mantain a lighter weight ratio. - Tom
Features include:
12.5-Inch overall fixed blade
stainless steel, full tang
reverse serration
black wood handle with lanyard hole
nylon sheath
Elk Ridge ER-082 Fixed Blade Knife
This is a great small axe! Again, like we noted in the review above sometimes you do not need a lot of heavy equipment weighing you down. This unit is one piece of metal with a cord wrapping for the handle. It has a "rough coating" on the entire axe to protect the metal, and the blade is razor sharp out of the box. There is also three holes on the top of the axe that make the head lighter, but we think that those are made for metric type of nuts, as the axe could be used as a wrench. Another idea that we had, is some cord could go thru it if you wanted to hang the axe around your neck. We also took this axe out to the woods, and had no problems chopping thru small trees that were already fallen on the ground, and also splitting logs in half afterwards. We threw the axe a few times into a dead tree, and the axe handles well in that capacity, although not originally designed for that purpose. One thing that we would recommend, is as soon as you get the axe out of the box, run the handle under some cold water to soak the cord that is around the handle. Then dry the axe off with a paper towel to get rid of any excess water. Then, let the cord handle dry in room temperature for at least a day. What this does, is nylon and other types of cordage that is being used for any sort of handle, will actually tighten up around the metal once it dries. This made the cord handle way more tight and secure afterwards.. Just a handy tip. - Tom

8'' Overall
Rough Black Paint Stainless Steel Blade
Thick Cord Wrapped Handle
Includes Nylon Sheath
