First, we checked the rubber handle. A very nice small checked pattern. There is also a big lanyard hole at the end of the handle with a re-enforced aluminum insert. The hilt of the knife is oval.

The blade is 440A stainless steel and has a black finish. The shape of the blade is like a straight bowie knife.

A lot of reviews out on the internet call this a "rough use knife" and I can say that the tests that I have seen are very true.

I have chopped and battoned wood with no issue to the knife. the edge still looks great has has not folded. rope, cardboard, the knife is really tough.

The sheath looks like it is nylon, with on loop of the top to secure it to a belt.

This is a great knife. A lot of people often say that this knife, looks like another brand of knife, however this one is way less in price and the quality is still the same. Very recommended! - Tom

Large Fixed Blade Knives:

MTech Knives are made by MASTER Cutlery they are the largest wholesale knife company in the U.S.A. (see the company description in the box below).

In this posting, we review of two large fixed blade knives.

MASTER Cutlery makes many great brands of knives, not just the M-Tech brand (see the yellow box below).

Please note that "any" of these large fixed blade knifes can be found and purchased on Amazon.com (click here) by searching the "item # number".

You can also click on any of the item's pictures below, to so a default search on amazon for that item number, Thank You !

Again, we checked the rubber handle. It has lines around it and has a knurled grip. There is also a big lanyard hole at the end of the handle with a re-enforced aluminum insert. The hilt of the knife is oval.

The blade is 440A stainless steel and has a black finish. The shape of the blade is like a kukri shape and is wider towards the top of the blade. This aides in chopping wood. which, like the MT-151 that I previously reviewed, does very well with no issues to the blade.

Again, a lot of people view this as a "rough use knife" and I agree it is tough and would be great if out in the woods.  - Tom

Kershaw was founded in 1974 to design and manufacture tools that knife users would be proud to own, carry, and use. This has meant that every Kershaw knife must be of the highest quality. Whether it’s a hardworking pocketknife, a special collectors’ edition, or a precision kitchen knife, Kershaw always chooses appropriate, high-quality materials and is dedicated to intensive craftsmanship. Along with extremely tight tolerances and state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques, this ensures that Kershaw knives provide a lifetime of performance.

The Kershaw Camp 14 is more than a camp knife; it's like a "short sword" in your hand! As always, we start at the handle. The handle has a diamond grip pattern on it and is very comfortable, the one thing that I love about the handle is there are "two" lanyard holes, on in the hilt and one in the bottom of the handle. Many different paracord wrappings can be applied to the handle for extra grip and carrying. The sheath of this knife is awesome as well.. very flat heavy duty nylon plastic material that has Velcro straps for many carrying options. Also the handle has a "full tang".

The blade is power coated 65n carbon which will hold up for the long haul. There is also a blood groove on each side of the blade. This blade just “eats” wood.. anything that I chopped outside and inside the blade handle very well. Kershaw has really done an excellent job on this product. One thing to watch is there was a lot of oil on the blade.

I took a paper towel and cleaned the excess off, not a big deal.. just an observation.

The overall balance and weight of this knife is perfect, if you are looking for a large blade with more quality and performance than a floppy cheap machete, you will be happy with this knife. - Tom

The Kershaw Camp 10 looks like an kukri or khukri knife. Like the Kershaw Knives Camp 14, The handle has a diamond grip pattern on it and is very comfortable, the handle has those "two" lanyard holes, on in the hilt and one in the bottom of the handle. Many different paracord wrappings can be applied to the handle for extra grip and carrying. The sheath of this knife is awesome as well.. very flat heavy duty nylon plastic material that has Velcro straps for many carrying options.

The blade is power coated 65n carbon which will hold up for the long haul. Like the kukri or khukri knife it has an inwardly curved edge and a wide top half of the blade is very useful for chopping wood. I’ve even chopped thru a dead tree with no issues! It also fits very well in a back pack or bug out bag as it is 10 inches long. Again Kershaw has really done such an excellent job on this product and the entire Camp line. I would like to again note, that one thing to watch for, is there was a lot of oil on the blade. I took a paper towel and cleaned the excess off, not a big deal.. just an observation.

If you are looking for a large blade with more quality and performance than a floppy cheap machete, in a more compact length, get this knife. - Tom

In July 2004, The Schrade name was purchased by Taylor Brands LLC, who manufacture Schrade, Old Timer, Imperial, Uncle Henry and Smith & Wesson knives

This knife was really hard to get from Taylor Brands as it one of thier best sellers. It's a bit smaller then the SCHF10, but it holds it's own and is a really great knife. Instead of a 1095 High Carbon steel blade, this blade.. is 8Cr13MoV High Carbon Stainless steel, which is very close to AUS8 (close to 440C) and is more rust resitant than 1095 Carbon. It has really nice jimping on the top and underneath of the handle. Also there is jimping on the top of the blade as well. The handle is made from micarta and provides a very excellent grip. It is also full tang and the spine is close to the thickness of the SCHF10. The storage pouch on this on is not removable, but it is awesome that it is including on the sheath. It a great idea,as if you really needed to grab this knife an head out into the woods (or elsewhere) you could back small survial items in the pouch ahead of time. This knife and the SCHF10, wether paired together or alone is a great option of a bug out bag or even carried alone. Very impressive to hold and use, both of them cuts thru anything!

I've said it before and it is worth repeating, I really appreciate Taylor Brands for sending my team and I this knife, the SCHF9 and the SCHF10. While my team and I are non-biased in our reviews, we appreciate the sample products that Taylor brands sends us, per our request. They make sure that we get the items no matter what.

This is a mighty knife! This knife. has the "thickest" spine I have ever seen in a review. The handle has an black ring type of textured, and has ergonomic finger placement. Silicone thermo plastic elastomer (TPE) for the handle slabs. Handle has full tang and does have a laynard hole at the end of the knife.

The blade is 1095 High Carbon Steel, Drop Point Re-Curve. It does has a finish to protect against rust. There is nice jimping on the top of the handle. The knife was designed by was designed by Brian Griffin of Griffin Design. And reportedly, the knife can support a 214 pound man, standing on the handle alone, bending..but not breaking the embedded blade.. no doubt with that, again look how thick the spine of the knife is!

Just an observation, because it is a carbon blade, it "may" be a good idea to put a "very light" coat of oil on the blade after each use. Something like cooking oil, perhaps. Just to protect it a bit more. The coated blade is good, but after wear.. as an extra step.... just something to think about.

The sheath comes with a detachable pouch, with is awesome! You could put a sharpening stone, matches, band-aids and other survial gear in it. An awesome outdoor knife!
