In this review we are looking at non-locking type of traditional slip joint pocket knives and some smaller "lockback" pocket knives. Some states in the U.S.A. slip joint pocket knives are only allowed for open or conceled knife carry. Even entire countries such as the U.K., only allow non-locking pocket knives less than 3 inches are allow to be carried. We are also concentrating on blades that are lower than 3 inches. Any exceptions will be noted, please check your local state laws before carrying any knife.
It often said, that the pocket knife was (and still is) an item that all gentleman should carry. Even if security conserns of recent years prohibit the carrying of larger knives in certain areas, carrying the pocket knife should be ok in most areas, again check your local state laws.

The Barlow knife is considered by some as the original pocket knife. The late President George Washington was known to carry a Barlow knife. Mark Twain also referred to the Barlow knife in some of his books. Some Barlow knives have one blade, others have two clip point blades. This is a two bladed model. This one came razor sharp as expected. The blades are very rock solid and very tight. A lot of pocket knives are like this when there are new and will loosen up when broken in after a short time. From research, we believe that the handles are made from Derlin material. - Tom

There is 3 patterns of Stockman pocket knives. Straight, sowbelly and serpentine. This is a serpentine stockman pattern. Legend behind this pen knife pattern is farmers used to maintain there livestock with this sort of knife. Stockman patterns has 3 knives, but this one includes a fourth blade which is very nice to have. From left to right, Spey, wood carver, sheepsfoot and clip point blades. The wood carver blade is the extra blade that is so nice to have if you like whittling and carving wood. The handle is made from derlin material and is a nice classic yellow color which makes it easier to find the knife if you accidentally drop it on the ground. - Tom
This knife has the classic canoe pattern that looks like the boat of the same name. These knives normally have two blades. From left to right, a pen knife and a large spear point knife. These knives are popular with freshwater fisherman. It it low profile and very easy to hold. A great knife to work on whittling wood as well. Hand is made from Derlin material. - Tom
The Old Timer Big Man pocket knife is a classic Congress knife pattern that is noted by it's convexed shape. The late President Abraham Lincoln used to carry a Congress knife. And also legend has it, that members of congress used to be given blocks of wood so they would not carve the wood furniture in between sessions, with their knives like this one. This knife has four blades, from left to right, sheepsfoot, wood carver, pen, and another sheepsfoot blade. The wood carver blade is very nice, as you see that knife shape on wood carving tools. Also derlin material for the handle and nice round polished bolsters for the end of the handles. - Tom
