Pry Bars
One tool that a lot of people do not think to carry or own, is a sturdy pry bar. Either in your house, in your car or.. if small enough in your pocket or carrying bag. Applications can go way beyond just prying boards and nails, which can save wear and tear on your knife. Cutting with the ends of the flat pry bar, opening paint cans, caps from glass bottles and even self defense.
Mini and Regular sized "flat" pry bars, are what we are reviewing, below.

Our review on the County Comm Widgy Bar Family (part of the EOD Bar Family, click on the picture below)
The Widgy Bar is a curve small mini flat bar that comes in 2, 3 and 4 inch models (see picture above). There are also a 3 and 4 1/8 inch straight versions of the Widgy bar but we are only reviewing the curved version at this time. As we understand it, County Comm makes these bars for the U.S. Military and then sells the surplus or "over runs" on their web site. The 3 inch MICRO and the 4 inch POCKET Widgy bars were the first that were made, and then the U.S. Government requested a smaller version.. that is when the PICO version was made.
The metal is D9 Steel, however County Comm also make Titanium versions of the three. There is hole in the front for removing nails, a forked end that can be sharpened and also a small hole in the back of each unit. Some people put these Widgy bars on a key chain, others put some paracord thru the end hole and around the middle.
On all three model, we were able to pull nails from some scrap wood. We also used the long POCKET model to actually even batton some small pieces of wood. No issues at all... we see no bending of the metal. We also opened some cardboard boxes and even "cut up" some cardboard as well. Very awesome!
I understand why some of my team was telling me in advance how nice these bars are. I've also read around the internet how much people highly regard these tools and put them on their daily carry keychain or every day carrying bags. The main thing to decided is what "size" over all do you need. It may be a good idea just to buy all three and keep on a keychain or your bag, as all three sizes could come in useful.. for certain circumstances and events. - Tom

These two mini pry bars were a suprise, because we did not think that we would find another mini key chain pry bars like these. Both of the Schrade mini key chain pry bars are very well made (metal is 6AL-4V Titanium!). They also have more functions then just the pry bar alone. We removed nails and stapes from wood (from the pry bar end), opened a nice bottle (ok.. more then one) of stout (with the bottle opener), cut 550 paracord (with the seatbelt cutter), and unbolted a few nuts with the wrench driver. We then repeated the same for the SCTPT2.
Depending on your needs the SCTPT is a bit smaller than the SCTPT2. We think either one is very nice to have on your keychain, or maybe in your wallet. One thing to remember in regards to flying, is that tools that are "seven inches or less in length", should be ok for carry-on or checked luggage, however check with your local TSA office "before" your flight. Some people have small survial kits made out of Altoids Tins one of these pry tools would be great as the are flat and could fit perfectly inside. Just another idea on how versitle these tools can be. We recommend either. See all of the functions and specs below. - Tom

Our review on the TEKTON 18" Wrecking Bar:
When you need something a bit bigger, there is nothing quite like a wrecking bar. The bar has both a curved "goose neck" with a "v" notched nail puller end and also a flat non-notch pry bar end. We were able to pry apart some wood pallets with ease. We also wrapped the middle of the bar with 550 paracord for extra grip.
Here is a real story about how carrying a nice wrecking bar like this in your car can help. This review took on a "very real" event. One of my Wife's friends was in an car accident (she was fine, but not the car..hit a coyote we think) on the highway. My Wife took this wrecking bar to her friend as the front plastic bumper of the car was broken and up against the front tire. The wrecking bar helped out a lot to pry away the plastic front bumper back further, so my Wife and her friend could cut the plastic bumper piece off so it would not be rubbing against the front tire.. This shows straight off, how awesome this wrecking bar is. Like the old saying goes, "I would rather have it and not need it, then not to have it when I really do need it".. it was needed .. and I'm glad we could review it in a very real setting. - Tom
