Here is our review, on the SCH600TI and SCH601TI Schrade Frame Lock Folding Knife Drop Point Re-Curve Blade with Titanium Handle.
Lets get started...
Overview:
We tested both knife models, by chopping some heavy cardboard using the upswept drop point of this "dual profile" blade. We also sliced thru some rubber hoses, and jabbed the tip into various dead wood outside. We also sliced thru some rope, 550 paracord, as well as some other plastic\nylon cordage. Outside, we did some close up work making feather sticks, using the recurved concave edge of the "dual profile" blade. The blade is 3.4 inches long, is made out of D2 high carbon steel, carbon content is 1.5% carbon that has superb edge holding ability. It is quite rust resistant but not 100%, so the blade is coated with a titanium coating for extra wear and protection. The blade features a upswept drop point to a concave edge. So both of the SCH600TI and SCH601TI has this "dual profile edge".
The handle of both model is soild titanium, the only difference is that the SCH601TI has a checked pattern for more grip. Length of the handle is 4.6 inches total length of both models is 8.0 with the blade fully extended. The weight is 0.31lb for both. The handle also has no lanyard hole, however there is a handle spacer in the back that the operator may be able to put a lanyard on.
On top of the handle where the knife joins the handle, there is a thumb rest and the top of the blade does have nice jimping on it. The knife also has ambidextrous thumb studs and a "flipper" on top so you can deploy the blade manually using one handed operation.
What we like:
The blade is not only wicked sharp, it has a great weight and feel and is comfortable in our hand. The pivot point has a nice regular "slotted" screw, which he did not have to adjust at all, but if we wanted to, we would just need to use regular screwdriver.
We love this blade, because it has.. as we call it... a "dual profile edge", for daily task the operator can just use the first up-swept drop point edge only, keeping the concave "curved" part of the blade sharp for more aggressive cutting tasks. So the blade acts like "two knives" in one.
The D2 and the titanium handle is win\win. We are talking about heavy use here for the most critical tasks.
The pocket clip is only tip down carry and is not reversible. Which to us, is not a big deal.. at all.
The pocket clip also attached really well on molle webbing for military bags and packs.
What to know before hand:
Ok.. here is some things to know.. there is a lot of posts and videos that you will see on both models of this knife that is not really actuate at all. We are not "pointing fingers" but here is some "mis- information" that we would like to correct.
There is some posts out there, that point out the nylon or teflon washer is being used inside of a "bronze washer". The majority of knives out there uses nylon or teflon type of washers for the pivot point as they don't drag the blade down as much. Not sure why people would be commenting about that, other to in-justly tear both knife models down. The knife blade also deploys out with any issues.
I've seen a post by someone claiming that there is no way that the handle on both models can be titanium for the overall price of this knife. The reality is, that the handles “are “ truly titanium, and that is the reason why we like the Schrade line of knives from Taylor Brands, is because not only have we seen time and time again that they make quality products, is also they maintain an affordable price point than the competition. So the question should be for all of the naysayers out there.. “why isn't my favorite 'xyz' company charging me so much money for their products”?
The other thing that is not really a negative.. it is more of a "gripe" to us.. is we keep seeing videos (again, without point fingers) that say: 'Schrade is really stepping up the quality'.. and also: 'Schrade is beginning to produce some really great knives'. We done "many reviews" on the promotional products that Taylor Brands have sent us, and "always" no matter if it is the Schrade line or other great lines that Taylor Brands makes, they have always used quality materials at a lower price point. We also find that other companies and individuals "do not like" that. Reason being, is people are finally seeing the increase product lines that Taylor Brands have been producing, they are gaining quite a worldwide following in regards to the innovation of thier knives and other products, which they deserve.
Final Thoughts:
We really appreciate Taylor Brands always sending us great products to review. They always treat us with great professional courtesy and are very receptive to our reviews and comments about there products, and we want to acknowledge that. If there was something that we did not like about these knives or other knives.. we would say so. We maintain honesty and integrity with every review that we do.
Both of these models, it a personal choice weather you prefer a smooth handle or a more textured grip. But for a medium to large folding knife (as we would classify both) these two model of knives.. by far.. are "the best" for heavy use in regards to materials and blade profile. Also, the self-defense \ tactical applications of the knife, even when held in a "reverse grip" is very much apparent.
If you search for "any other" knife like this, that has titanium handles, you will find the price of both of these models are about "TWO or THREE TIMES LESS", guaranteed. End game, if there is bad situation and I really need a good folding knife on me, this would be my “first choice”, that goes in my pocket or in my gear and "THAT" folks.. is saying a lot.
Happy Holidays to all.. We wish all our visitors.. all the best and a great Happy New Year!
