We are happy to review Taylor Brands, 2015 Schrade SCH107 line of folding pocket knives. Last year we did a review last year on the Schrade SCH101 and the serrated SCH101S versions (click here, further down on the page). NOTE: These models are avalible on Amazon.com and \ or Taylor brands web site, just click on each image. Let’s get started!

All of the models below have 2.5 (2 ½) inch blades which should be compliant with most state and even federal laws. As always check with your local area laws and also facilities that you may be visiting.

The SCH107 and SCH107S both have 8Cr13MoV stainless steel drop point blades with thumb opening knobs on both left and right towards the top of the blade. The handle slabs are textured G-10 material and there are “skeleton holes” along the handle that can be used in lashing cords for lanyard and other different configurations. Note when the blade closes, it does not go past those skeleton holes on the inside of the knife. The holes also make the knife lighter as well making these knives great for every day carry (EDC). There is also a deep pocket clip in the back for tip down carrying.

We like the G-10 handles on both these models; they provide a nice solid grip on the knife. On all of these SCH107 models, there is a nice finger choil on the bottom of the handle where our index finger rests comfortably. Also to note that these models have natural steel grey color while the other models below have black coating. On the SCH107S model, it has a partial serrated drop point blade and a lot of people ask me why they would want that option in a pocket knife. The answer is “sawing power”, to make quicker cuts on wood and other material. As shown below in one of our tests, we were done very quickly when cutting this wooden dowel that we will be using for an upcoming project:

The SCH107ALBK, SC107ALOR models again, both have 8Cr13MoV stainless steel drop point blades with thumb opening knobs on the left and right of the blade. The handle slabs are textured aluminum material and there are “skeleton holes” along the handle that can be used in lashing paracord in different configurations. The holes also make the knife lighter as well. There is also a deep pocket clip in the back for tip down carrying. Both models have straight edges, no serrated models.. and we hope that Taylor Brands comes out with a serrated blade model, just to have that option with the aluminum scales. Also to note that both of these models have black coating on the blades, the other models above only come in natural steel grey color, like with everything.. That is a personal preference you will have to decide on.

We find the aluminum scales, make the handle thinner to hold that the G-10 models above. The aluminum scales are textured but has a “smoother” feel to them.. Just a personal preference that a person has to decide on. We did find that with the handle slabs are just a bit thinner and smoother then the G-10, both models were easier to deploy when clipped inside a shirt pocket. The bright orange SC107ALOR model may be a good choice for hunters and emergency personnel as the knife stands out if dropped or put down while working. I actually have brought the orange model to a few locations myself, and found that the knife does stand out and is easy to locate.

As shown below in one of our sharpness tests using the SCH107ALBK, we were able to take “all” of the labels off of this ale bottle in less than one minute, including the majority of the adhesive!  No pre-sharpening folks.. this is right out of the box:

(NOTE: Do not drink and cut.. you only have one set of fingers.. always drink responsibly!

This was an old bottle that we found in our recycle bin.)

Conclusion:

These knives are just fantastic, and we find they stand up against other brands at a lesser price point. If you look on YouTube, there are a lot of reviews on the 2015 line of "fixed blade" Schrade knives that people are raving about, these should be included! They are that good!
